Interest-based Negotiation in Environmental Assessment
Goal |
While knowing how to conduct an Environmental Assessment (EA) is important, successful practitioners and others involved in EA know that negotiation skills are integral to finding common ground between diverse and often conflicting interests. This workshop will provide you with the skills needed to understand and respond to conflict in EA. |
Ideal Participants |
- Individuals involved in planning, managing, conducting, reviewing or participating in EAs pursuant to the Canadian Environmental Assessment Act.
- This training is particularly useful for those that already have experience in EA.

Outcomes and Benefits |
The course will:
- increase participants’ understanding of conflict and responses to conflict;
- help participants to identify when the intervention of a neutral third party can be useful;
- prepare participants with the skills needed to negotiate in EA, using an interest-based negotiation model.

Participants will have the opportunity to:
- interact with a variety of players in the federal EA process and share experiences in dealing with conflict;
- engage in practical negotiation exercises involving real EA situations.
