Course Description
Orientation to the Canadian Environmental Assessment Act
Goal |
This course provides participants with a good overview of the Canadian Environmental Assessment Act. It introduces key regulations under the Act and offers guidance on putting the federal environmental assessment (EA) process into practice. |
Ideal Participants |
- Individuals involved in planning, managing, conducting, reviewing or participating in EAs carried under the Canadian Environmental Assessment Act.

Outcomes and Benefits |
The course will:
- provide participants with an overview of the key elements of the Act and its regulations, and how they work in practice;
- help participants to understand how the Act interrelates with provincial and other federal government processes;
- enhance participants’ understanding of the roles and responsibilities that project proponents and federal departments and agencies have under the Act (including the public registry);
- inform participants about how the Agency can provide further support.

Participants will have the opportunity to:
- engage in a hands-on approach to learning through interactive exercises, case studies and group discussions;
- familiarize themselves with the Act and learn about best EA practices;
- interact with key players in the federal EA process and share project experiences.
